Robert L. Wallizer, Sr.
1934-2019
Robert Lewis “Bob” Wallizer, Sr., age 84, of Hancock, Md., passed away surrounded by his loving family, on February 13, 2019, at the Meritus Medical Center, in Hagerstown, Md.
Born October 13, 1934, in Flintstone, Md., he was the son of the late Wade and Bessie (Alt) Wallizer.
Bob left behind a beautiful wife of fifty-four years, Teresa Lorraine (Ashkettle) Wallizer. Together they created a beautiful family, including their daughter, Kimberly Anne (Wallizer) Smith and her husband, Glen Smith, of Hancock; a son, Robert Lewis Wallizer, Jr., of McConnellsburg, Pa.; one granddaughter, Eva Smith, of Hancock; and two grandsons, Charles Smith, of Rochester, NY, and Clayton Smith, of Hancock.
Also surviving are two sisters, Eleanor Baranski, and Evelyn Hartley; and multiple nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his loving parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Betty J. Wallizer.
Bob was a 1953 graduate of Flintstone High School, in Flintstone, Md.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1963, and retired from Mack Trucks in 1990, after twenty-six years of employment.
He was a member of the UAW #210; a lifetime member of the NRA; and a member of the American Legion Webster B Harrison, Post 26, in Hancock.
In his spare time, Bob enjoyed hunting with his son Robert; working in his garden; and sharing his love of Bluegrass music with his children, grandchildren and friends.
The family celebrated Bob’s life and legacy at 11 a.m., on Monday, February 18, 2019, at the St. Peter Catholic Church, in Hancock, with Fr. John Lombardi officiating.
There will be a private burial at a later date.
They received friends and family on Sunday, February 17, 2019, from 5 until 8 p.m., at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., in Hancock, and on Monday, at the church, one hour preceding the service.
