Richard Preston Tetlow

1931-2021

Richard Preston Tetlow, Jr. 89, passed away, Thursday, April 29, 2021 in Berkeley Springs.

Born on October 10, 1931 at his home in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Richard P. Tetlow and Elizabeth M. (Howard) Tetlow.

On June 14, 1952, he married the love of his life, Barbara A. Goldberg in Parris Island, South Carolina, and she preceded him in death August 20, 2019.

Richard proudly served as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War.

He played minor league baseball, he was an avid golfer and he enjoyed the great outdoors. He loved all things John Deere and found much joy in giving gator rides to his family and friends. Richard and Barbara loved animals and always had dogs, cats, horses, sheep, goats and chickens. He was a loving father, grandfather, gg-dad and wonderful friend to all who knew him.

He is survived by his four children, Vicki (Robert) Bishop of Clarksburg, Maryland, Kathy (Steve) Heissner of Gaithersburg, Maryland, Andy Tetlow (April) of Austinburg, Ohio and Terri (Mark) Rutter of Frederick, Maryland; his sister, Annabelle (Tetlow) Barlow; five grandchildren, Ronnie Malone, Jason Meyer (Katie), Derrick Tetlow (Elizabeth), Stephanie (Brennan) Grady and Renee Tetlow; and nine great-grandchildren, Ryan Davis, Natalie Meyer, Brian and Elizabeth Meyer; Henry, Sam and Owen Tetlow and Evelyn and Declan Grady; and his beloved dog, Zippy; sister-in-law Heather Macmillian; friends Buddy and Joan Kinsey, Nancy Offutt and Mary McKee.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brother-in-laws, Bruce Goldberg, Robert Truitt and Paul Goldberg; sister-in-law, Ann Truitt and two grandsons, Brian Meyer and Ben Tetlow.

Arrangements are being handled by Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
