Richard H. Merica
1939-2019
Richard Henry Merica, age 79, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at The Berkeley Springs Center.
Born October 1, 1939 in Berkeley Springs, he was the son of the late Ray Jackson and Alice Frances Henry Merica.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He attended Berkeley Springs High School.
He worked as the manager of Sleepy Creek Farm for more than 30 years and operated Unger’s Store for 41 years. Richard had worked in the kitchen at Cacapon State Park, with Victor Products and Berkeley Metal Fabricating. He retired as a school bus driver with Morgan County Public Schools.
He was a member of the Junior Order of United American Mechanics Council #117 and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1483.
He grew dahlias, enjoyed farming and liked to play Rook.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Micheria Jo Shambaugh Merica, at home; his sister-in-law, Judy Merica of Berkeley Springs and two nieces, Karleen Spielman of Berkeley Springs and Dee Merica of Greencastle, Pa.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Patsy Spielman and his brother Kenneth Merica.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., with the Rev. Dr. G. Edward Grove officiating.
Interment was in Greenwood Grove Cemetery. The family received friends from 5-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
