Public hearing set for town to abandon Union St. parcel

by Trish Rudder

Two public hearings by the Bath town council are set for February 19 and March 5 to pass an ordinance to resolve a property issue behind Town Hall

The property at 10 Union Street, which is directly behind Town Hall at 271 Wilkes Street, is owned by Diane LaVelle, but a portion is actually on town property.

LaVelle had said the property could not be sold until the issue is resolved.

Town Recorder Susan Webster, who also chairs the ordinance committee, said LaVelle paid the town $300 for that portion of the property that was owned by the town. As part of the deal, LeVelle ceded some of her property on the east side of the building to the town, Webster said.
