Paw Paw Senior Center reopens in phases for meals, socializing

by Kate Evans

Paw Paw Senior Life Services is welcoming back its clients as the Paw Paw Senior Center reopens for eating meals at their facility on Winchester Street three days a week for two weeks, then fully reopens five days a week on Monday, June 22.

The center has been closed to senior citizens since last March under order of the governor in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Paw Paw Senior Center started to serve lunch in their dining area Monday and will continue offering lunches in person on Monday, Wednesday and Friday for the next two weeks.

On Tuesday and Thursday, senior meals can be picked up for the next two weeks as the Paw Paw Senior Center won’t be open those days, said Senior Center manager Jane Abe.

Beginning Monday, June 22 the Paw Paw Senior Center will be open for meals Monday through Friday every week as before, Abe said.  Meals will be served at 11:30 a.m.

Until further notice people can still come and pick up a lunch at the Senior Center if they prefer not to dine in, she said.  They just have to call and let them know they’ll be picking up their meal.

No activities like singing, painting or playing cards are scheduled yet until further notice, Abe said.  However, seniors can still come in to socialize before lunch like before.  Some clients come in earlier to do puzzles and activities by themselves.

Abe said that they’re so excited to be reopening and can’t wait to see everyone.  It will be nice to serve seniors lunch instead of handing them their meals.

The Paw Paw Senior Center is open from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday for the next two weeks and Monday through Friday from Monday, June 22 on.

For more information about the reopening, call the Paw Paw Senior Center at 304-947-7922.
