The Maryland State Highway Administration will be paving Main
Street this week, starting today, Wednesday, November 6, from Hancock Middle-Senior High School on West Main Street to approximately the vicinity of Park N Dine on East Main Street.
The project is expected to take three weeks to complete. Parking is prohibited on Main Street during the duration of the project.
The town is waiving parking meter fees and any parking permit requirements in all town parking lots for the duration of the project. All other parking restrictions remain in place.
The contractor performing the work plans on removing all of the old asphalt and paving materials for the entire length of the designated street and then repave on one side of the street.
Once complete, the company will then repave the opposite side of the street.
There will only be one-way traffic on Main Street for the duration of the project. Flaggers and other traffic control devices will control traffic.
The Town of Hancock Public Works employees will be replacing and leveling the sewer and manhole covers along the length of Main Street in conjunction with this project as well.
“Your patience and cooperation is greatly appreciated as we complete this very overdue civil works project,” Town Manager Joe Gilbert said.
