Notre Dame ends Paw Paw’s season in Class A Regional Championships

by Jamie Harris
The Paw Paw Pirates made the trip to Clarksburg for the Class A Region II Championship game last Wednesday, March 7. The Pirates faced the defending Class A State Champions Notre Dame.
Paw Paw was looking to steal an upset win over the Irish and punch their ticket to the Class A State Championship tournament.
Notre Dame had other plans as the Irish raced out to an early 31-15 first quarter lead. The Pirates tried to rally in the second quarter, but Notre Dame increased their lead to 50-31 at halftime.
The second half fared no better for the Pirates as Notre Dame kept the defensive pressure up and continued to score. By the time the final horn sounded in the fourth quarter the Irish took a convincing 90-66 win over a very good Pirates team.
Senior Landon Ridgeway led the Pirates with 31 points in his final game in the Paw Paw basketball uniform. Fellow senior Christian Braithwaite added 14 points in his final game as a Pirate.
Paw Paw ended their season with a very impressive 17-9 record under first year head coach Chris Poniris.
The Pirates will lose seniors Ridgeway, Braithwaite, Jon Wolfe and Matt Kidwell.
