Norma L. Pittman

1934-2020

Norma Lee (Mellott) Pittman, of Big Cove Tannery, Pa., passed away on Friday, November 27, 2020 at the Fulton County Medical Center, in McConnellsburg, Pa.

She was born on July 29, 1934, in Amaranth, Pa., the daughter of Roy and Gladys (Ekins) Mellott; and the widow of Basil Eugene Pittman, Sr., whom she married June 11, 1952 and who passed away March 4, 2010.

Norma was a member of the Damascus Christian Church, in Big Cove Tannery, where she was a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Ladies Aid Society. She also volunteered at Bible Release, in Warfordsburg, Pa.

She worked for 56 years at Pittman’s IGA, in Hancock, Md.

After a series of strokes, Norma moved in with her daughter.

Surviving are her daughter, Carol L. Exline and her husband, Gerald, of Warfordsburg; a son, Basil E. Pittman, Jr. and his wife, Brenda, of Newburg, Pa.; eight grandchildren, Scott Exline, Kathi (Exline) Hottinger, Justin Pittman, Philip Pittman, Adam Pittman, Elizabeth Huff, Alison Van Scyoc and Liana Piper; eight great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; a step-great-great-granddaughter; and a sister, Nancy Iden, formerly of Hancock, Md.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Letty York, Mary Jane Clevenger, Mildred “Midge” Fleming and Nellie Foltz.

Due to the COVID restrictions, her burial will be private.

The arrangements have been entrusted to the Grove Funeral Home, in Hancock, Md.
