Maryland man arrested for forgery here

A Baltimore man was arrested last Friday, February 28 after bank employees at City National Bank received what they believed to be a forged check for more than $3,700.

Daryl J. Jones, 53, was charged for forgery and uttering in the case.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Morgan County Magistrate Court, Cpl. S. Smith of the West Virginia State Police responded to City National Bank on North Washington Street shortly after 1 p.m. for a forgery in progress.

Jones had endorsed and tried to cash a check for $3,732. Bank employees advised police the check was similar to other forged checks being cashed in the area.

According to Cpl. Smith, the same check had been passed at City National Bank just two days prior by a different bank customer.

Jones was arrested and is being held at the Eastern Regional Jail in lieu of a $15,000 cash-only bond.

Cpl. Smith said the forgery investigation in ongoing and other arrests are expected in the case.
