Mary C. Crouse
1930-2019
Mary Catherine Elizabeth “Bette” Crouse, age 88, of Hancock, Md., passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at the Ravenwood Nursing Care Center, in Hagerstown, Md.
Born in Hancock, Md., on August 15, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Hazel (Myers) Vantz, and the widow of Robert Elwood Crouse, whom she married February 18, 1951 and who passed away October 29, 2015.
She was a graduate of Hancock High School with the class of 1948.
She was a member of the St. Peter Catholic Church, in Hancock.
Bette was a homemaker, and a wonderful mother and grandmother.
She is survived by their six sons, Robert T. Crouse and his wife, Diane, of Uniontown, Oh., Michael L. Crouse and his wife, Patricia, of Lexington, Va., David L. Crouse, and his wife, Catherine, of Greencastle, Pa., James P. Crouse and his wife, Rebecca, of Westminster, Md., Charles A. Crouse and his wife, Melissa, of Harrisburg, Pa., and Patrick L. Crouse and his wife, Wendy, of Annapolis, Md.; their two daughters, Mary C. Livingston and her husband, Samuel, of Frostburg, Md., and Elizabeth D. A. Fost and her husband, David, of Lusby, Md.; twenty-four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Frederick C. Vantz, of Hancock.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Vantz; and a sister, Ann Chaney.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 21, 2019, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church. Rev. John J. Lombardi will officiate. Burial will follow in the adjoining Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Church on Thursday, one hour prior to the service, from 10 until 11 a.m.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Peter Catholic Church, 16 East High Street, Hancock, MD 21750.
