1925-2020

Marie Dorothea Kozak, 94, of Berkeley Springs, died Thursday, January 30, 2020 at her residence.

Born February 16, 1925 in Baltimore, Md., she was the daughter of the late Charles Bartholomew Leo and Pauline Petronella Keller Hester.

She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

She was a graduate of Baltimore City College and earned her diploma of nursing from St. Joseph Hospital.

She worked as a registered nurse for St. Joseph Hospital and St. Agnes Hospital both in Baltimore.

She liked reading, cross stitching and gardening.

She is survived by her children, M. Theresa Kozak and Anne Kozak Burnette, both of Berkeley Springs, Jerome Kozak, Jr., White Marsh, Md., Charles Kozak, Sr., Catonsville, Md., Mary Hamblet, Savannah, N.Y. and Mary Kozak-Bruce, Stewartstown, Pa.; 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome Kozak, Sr. on March 30, 2006; one son, John Kozak; one sister and two brothers.

Mass of Christian Burial was offered Tuesday, February 4 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Father Mikee Lecias was celebrant. Burial was in Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery, Flintstone, Md.

Arrangements were handled by Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Berkeley Springs.
