Margaret B. McCray
1923-2019
Margaret B. McCray, age 96, of Warfordsburg, Pa., passed away peacefully at her home on October 11, 2019. She is now in the presence of our Heavenly Father and reunited and holding hands with the love of her life, Cam, who she has been separated from just short of 45 years.
Born March 18, 1923, in Needmore, Pa., she is the daughter of the late Morgan and Carrie Gordon.
She graduated from Warfordsburg High School in 1939.
Margaret married Cam Alden McCray on June 5, 1943.
They were separated from each other on the day of his passing, October 16, 1975.
She is survived by her loving family, Rodney L. McCray and his wife, Carol, of Needmore, Pa., Elaine A. Hill, of Hancock, Md., and Jenny L. Mellott and her husband, Rick, of Warfordsburg; a sister, Louise Welch, of Jacksonville, Fla.; six grandchildren, Kristi Whiteside, Kirk McCray, Tera Elder, Wendy Kramer, Mystery Mellott-Hull, and Brittany Mellott; fifteen great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Alice McKee and Estalene Clark; and a brother, Maynard Gordon.
Margaret had a great passion for the Lord, rarely missing a Les Feldick sermon on TV. She also loved her family to the core.
She made each one feel special, and focused on nothing but them when spending time visiting. Margaret was “Gran” to everyone, related or not. You didn’t leave from a visit with her without being offered a glass of her famous iced tea. She had a keen eye, and a knack for painting; most everyone in the family has one of her autographed, framed paintings hanging on their walls. Her hobbies consisted of word search puzzles, reading, playing cards, baking pies and taking care of her indoor and outdoor plants.
It was her wish that services would be private. Arrangements were entrusted to the Grove Funeral Home, in Hancock, Md.
