A Halfway, Md., man was killed Monday night in a single vehicle accident along Interstate 70 in Big Pool.

According to Maryland State Police, troopers from the Hagerstown Barrack were dispatched to the accident scene at Exit 12 on westbound I-70 at 9:17 p.m.

Police said a witness told them a dark colored pick-up was traveling at a high rate of speed had passed them to the right. Once the vehicle passed the witness, it abruptly changed lanes back to the left lane.

During the maneuver, the vehicle lost control and crossed the left shoulder and entered the median, police said, striking several trees before becoming fully engulfed in flames.

The vehicle was found to be a 2018 Ford F-150 with the deceased identified as Justin David Sproehnle, 38, as the driver and sole occupant of the truck.

Police said the left lane of the interstate was closed for the duration of the investigation on scene. The roadway was fully re-opened at approximately 12:15 a.m.

Police said speeding and reckless driving appear to be a contributing factor in the collision, however it remains under investigation at this time.
