Madeline Dolores Widmyer, 89 of Berkeley Springs, WV passed on to be with the Lord, Wednesday, May 23, 2018 under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle, in Kearneysville, W.Va.

She was escorted from her room to the Hospice entrance with an Honor Walk, covered in a patriotic quilt. Veterans saluted their fallen comrade and she was given an honor for her service to the United States.

Born January 10, 1929 in Hancock, W.Va.

She was the daughter of the late John E. Courtney and Rebecca Breakall Courtney.

She was a Corporal, Wac in the United States Army and received an Honorable Discharge January 1952.

During her service, she served at Fort Lawton, Washington State and Tokyo, Japan.

While serving in Japan, she met Charles R. Widmyer, also from Berkeley Springs, who was serving in the United States Air Force and doing a Tour in the Korean War.

They were married at Norin Chuo Kinko, Yuraku-cho in the city of Tokyo, Japan on November 13, 1951 and was married 60 years before Charles preceded her in death, January 30, 2012.

She was a homemaker and her most loved job, was that of a mother.

She was the mother of five. Survived by three daughters, all of Berkeley Springs, Melinda D. Ziler and husband, Darryl, Lucinda A. Morris and her husband Larry, and Pamela D. Litten and husband Rick; two sons, David R. Widmyer and wife Janice of Greenbackville, Va. and Dale A. Widmyer and wife Lisa of Hagerstown, Md.; nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and one brother, Franklin D. Courtney and wife Mildred of Hancock, Md. and a sister-in-law, Margella Clark of Chesapeake, Va. and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, John D. Courtney and George Courtney and two sisters, Joann Courtney and Willetta Hensley.

There will be a private family Graveside service conducted by Rick Litten at the Church of Christ at Duckwall, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

Arrangements were by Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 36 S. Green Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
