Louis Aloysius “Lou” Houff, Jr.

Louis Aloysius “Lou” Houff, Jr., age 83, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 26, 2019, in Memphis, Tenn. Born in Clifton Forge, Va., on February 5, 1936, he was the eldest son of the late Dr. Louis A. Houff, Sr. and Ethel (Bartlett) Houff.

He was a 1959 graduate of Mount St. Mary’s College, in Emmitsburg, Md., with a BS degree in Economics.

While attending college, he met his future wife of 51 years, Margaret “DeeDe” Victoria Baril, of Washington, D.C., whom he married June 27, 1959. They settled in the Washington suburb of Silver Spring, Md. where they raised two sons.

He was an Economist for the U.S. Department of Labor, and Margaret was a teacher with Montgomery County Public Schools. The couple later retired to Warfordsburg, Pa.

Lou is survived by two sons, Dr. Stephen L. Houff and his wife, Marci and their daughter, Marissa, of Nashville, Tenn. and Louis A. Houff, III and his wife, Sherry and their daughters, Julia and Jenna of Collierville, Tenn.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret V. Houff and his brother, James N. Houff.

The family received friends at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, Md., on Friday, November 1, 2019 from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Peter Catholic Church, 16 East High Street, Hancock, on Friday, November 1 at 1 p.m. Rev. John Lombardi was the celebrant.

Interment followed in the St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery in Little Orleans, Md.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Heart Association are encouraged.
