Lorraine R. Herlinger, 93, of Hedgesville, died Saturday, February 9, 2019 at her home while under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.

Born March 24, 1925 in New Haven, Conn., she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Helen Wygant Mathewson.

She was a member of the Martinsburg Seventh-day Adventist Church.

She graduated from West Haven High School in West Haven.

She earned her teaching degree at Atlantic Union College in South Lancaster, Mass.

She worked as a school teacher at Massachusetts and Connecticut private pre-schools.

She liked painting and crafts.

She is survived by her husband of 73 years, Ernst-August Herlinger, at home; three children, Charleen Hamilton, Dallas, Ga., Gary Herlinger, Marietta, Ga. and Frederich “Rick” Herlinger, Hedgesville; one sister, Lucille Mathewson, Bedford, Idaho; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Arlene Matheny. Services and burial will be private.

Arrangements are being handled by Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs.
