The Morgan County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the unattended death of a Berkeley Springs man after family members found the 70 year old man in a drainage ditch on his property on Tuesday, December 18.
According to a press release from Sheriff K.C. Bohrer, police responded to a residents on Murphy Lane off Johnsons Mill Road on Tuesday morning shortly before 9 a.m. Family members told police they had come to check on Gordon Gregory and found him deceased in a ditch at the bottom of a hill on his property. Mr. Gregory was lying beside his mini-van. Police found no signs of foul play, said Bohrer.
“Preliminary investigation indicates that Mr. Gregory apparently drove down the hill from his home, became stuck in the low lying soft ground and ditch. It appears Mr. Gregory got out of his vehicle and collapsed in the ditch,” the press release said.
Gregory was last seen alive on Saturday, December 15, police said. Deputy Chris Roper and Morgan County Medical Examiner Christy Duckwall and investigating the case further.
