Leonard O. Gaither

1926-2019

Leonard Odis “Bull” Gaither, 92, of Orleans, died Monday, April 8, 2019 at Fahrney-Keedy Memorial Home, Boonsboro, Md.

Born December 31, 1926 in Orleans, he was the son of the late Odis William and Agnes Virginia Shambaugh Gaither.

He was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Orleans.

He attended schools in Morgan County.

He served in the United States Army during WWII.

He was a conductor for the B&O Railroad.

He was a member of Jr.O.U.A.M. Council #117 in Berkeley Springs and United Train Union.

He is survived by his wife of 65 1/2 years Betty Mae Light Gaither at home; two sons, Ray Gaither, Berkeley Springs and Leonard Gaither, Hedgesville; one sister, Janice Stotler, Berkeley Springs; one brother, John Gaither, Sir Johns; two granddaughters, Rebecca Remsburg, Berkeley Springs and Monica Ross, Bunker Hill and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Bernice Sirbaugh, Norma Mencer and Wilma Apple and two brothers, James Gaither and Bernard Gaither.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 11 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 4581 Orleans Road, Great Cacapon with Rev. William C. Swope, Pastor Dick Voorhaar and Pastor Steve Dawson officiating.

Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery with graveside military honors provided by the Tri-State Honor Guard.

Family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 today, Wednesday, April 10 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs where a Jr.O.U.A.M. service will be at 7 p.m.
