Lady Indians Softball Team drops first four games Katie Hoffman blasts home run at Jefferson

by Jamie Harris
The Berkeley Springs High School Lady Indians Varsity Softball Team kicked off the 2019 season with four straight games on the road. Unfortunately for the Lady Indians they were not able to pick up wins against Jefferson, James Wood (Va.) and Washington High School.
On Thursday, March 14 the Lady Indians traveled to Jefferson High School for a contest with the Cougars. Jefferson jumped out to a 1-0 lead until the top of the fourth inning. Berkeley Springs senior slugger Katie Hoffman stepped up to the plate and smacked a solo home run to tie the game at 1-1.
Jefferson bounced back with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 3-1 lead. From there the hits and runs started to add up for the Cougars as they eventually took the 10-1 win over the Tribe.
On Friday, March 15 the Lady Indians hit the road once again as they traveled to Winchester, Va. to take on James Wood. The trip down 522 to Virginia was not a good one for Berkeley Springs as James Wood took a 19-2 five inning win.
On Saturday, March 16 the Lady Indians hit the road again for a doubleheader at Washington High School. Once again the Berkeley Springs offense struggled to find hits and runs as the Patriots swept the Tribe. In game one Washington took a 10-0 win in three innings and then followed that up with an 11-0 win in game two.
Berkeley Springs was in action on Monday, March 18 against Moorefield. Today Wednesday, March 20 the Lady Indians will host Philip Barbour starting at 4:30 p.m.
