Lady Indians pick up wins over Martinsburg & Grafton

The Berkeley Springs High School Lady Indians Softball Team had another busy week with four varsity and two junior varsity games this past week. On the varsity side the Lady Indians were able to pick up wins over Martinsburg and Grafton while losing to Musselman and Clear Spring.

Berkeley Springs dropped a 9-3 game to Musselman on Tuesday, April 16. In the top of the first inning Taylor Stotler tripled and scored on Tailyn Michael’s RBI single to take a 1-0 lead. Musselman bounced back with a homerun and a three run double in the bottom of the first to take a 4-1 lead.

In the bottom of the second Musselman added another run to make the score 5-1. In the top of the third inning Berkeley Springs bounced back when T. Stotler singled and scored on Mackenzie Stotler’s RBI single to cut the score to 5-2. The Lady Indians cut the score to 5-3 when T. Stotler singled again and scored on Ally Emery’s RBI double.

Musselman put the game away with two runs each in the bottom of the fifth and sixth inning to take the 9-3 win.

Serenity Parsell rounds third base and heads home.

The Lady Indians traveled to Clear Spring, Md. on Wednesday, April 17, to take on a very strong Blazer softball team. In the bottom of the first inning Clear Spring took a 1-0 lead on two Berkeley Springs errors. The lead stretched to 2-0 in the bottom of the second inning.

In the top of the fourth inning Emery doubled, followed by a Katie Hoffman walk. M. Stotler brought in Emery with an RBI double. Hannah Burton then followed with a two run RBI double that scored Hoffman and Emery. Natalie McCarty then singled and a Carlee Spielman double plated another run to make the score 4-2 in favor of the Lady Indians.

In the bottom of the fourth Clear Spring battled back to tie the game at 4-4. The Blazers took the lead for good with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and then a seven run scoring spree in the bottom of the sixth sealed the deal with the final score 13-4.

The Lady Indians hosted the Martinsburg Bulldogs on Thursday, April 18 and came away with a 10-0 win in three innings. T. Stotler led off the game with a double. Hoffman’s two run RBI single gave the Tribe a 2-0 lead.

In the bottom of the third inning the Lady Indians took advantage of five walks and a hit batter to push the score to 10-0. Kwaylynn McCarty’s two run RBI single and a Hoffman RBI single also aided the scoring.

Senior M. Stotler picked up the win going three innings, scattering two hits, and allowing zero runs.

In the night cap the Lady Indians took an 8-3 win over Grafton. The scoring started in the bottom of the third inning when Spielman doubled. T. Stotler followed with a single. Michael advanced the runners over with a sacrifice Spielman and Stotler then scored on an Emery RBI double. Emery then scored on a Hoffman RBI single to give Berkeley Springs a 3-0 lead.

Grafton cut the score to 3-2 in the top of the fourth inning. In the bottom of the fourth the Lady Indians increased their lead to 4-2 on a T. Stotler RBI triple. In the bottom of the fifth inning M. Stotler and Aleah Hageny singled and scored on McCarty’s two run RBI single. McCarty then scored on T. Stotler’s RBI double to make the score 8-2.

In the top of the seventh Grafton scored again to make the final score 8-3. Michael picked up the win going four innings, scattering six hits, and allowing one earned run.

In junior varsity action on Tuesday, April 16 the JV Lady Indians and Musselman battled to a 12-12 tie. In the first inning Abby Heironimus and Serenity Parsell singled. Hailee Thomas drew an RBI walk, and then a Chennel Jackson two run RBI single made the score 3-0 in favor of Berkeley Springs.

Musselman took a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the first off of six Berkeley Springs errors. In the top of the second Berkeley Springs battled back with a Thomas RBI single and an Alyssa Thayer two run RBI single to make the score 6-5 in favor of the JV Lady Indians. Musselman regained the lead 7-6 in the bottom of the second inning.

In the top of the third inning Autumn Smith and Heironimus singled and scored on Parsell’s two run RBI triple to take back the lead at 9-7. Musselman responded with two runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 10-9 lead.

In the top of the fourth a Parsell two run RBI single gave the Lady Indians a 12-10 lead. Musselman tied it at 12-12 in the bottom of the fourth to end the game.

On Wednesday, April 17 the JV Lady Indians lost 6-1 to Clear Spring. Berkeley Springs only run came on a Harmoni Lewis RBI single.

Berkeley Springs had a home varsity contest with Clear Spring on Tuesday, April 23. Then today, Wednesday, April 24 the Lady Indians will host Jefferson in junior varsity and varsity action. The junior varsity game will start at 4 p.m. followed by the varsity contest. On Thursday, April 25 the Lady Indians will travel to Hancock for a double header starting at 3 p.m. Then on Saturday, April 27 the Lady Indians will travel to East Hardy for a double header starting at 10 a.m.
