The Berkeley Springs High School Indians Varsity Baseball Team traveled to Inwood last Thursday, April 18 for a contest with the Class AAA Musselman Applemen. In a pitcher’s duel it was the Tribe senior Cameron King who came away with the win by out-dueling Musselman’s Nick Reeves.
The Indians got on the board in the top of the second inning when senior Larry Miller singled, stole second and then scored on senior EJ Barkley’s RBI single. That was all the runs the Indians would be able to muster against Reeves.
The Indians managed only six hits and struck out eight times against Reeves and the tough Applemen defense.
Offensively the Indians were led by Miller (2-2, run and stolen base), Barkley (1-3, RBI), Luke Spielman (2-4) and Payton Mann (1-3, double).
King and the Indians defense were phenomenal against a very good Musselman team. King went the distance scattering four hits and striking out four to earn the win. A key stat was that King gave up zero runs. The Indians defense despite two errors played strong all around.
Berkeley Springs had a home junior varsity and varsity contest with Keyser on Tuesday, April 23. The Indians will host Class AAA powerhouse Jefferson Cougars today, Wednesday, April 24 with a junior varsity game at 4:30 p.m. and the varsity game will follow afterwards.
