The Berkeley Springs High School Lady Indians Softball Team hosted Keyser in a key sectional game on Tuesday, April 27. The winner would pick up some much needed advantage in the future sectional championships.
In the first inning Berkeley Springs jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Keyser tied the game in the top of second at 2-2. The wheels started to fall off for the Lady Indians in the top of the third as Keyser pushed three runs across to make the score 5-2.
In the top of the fourth Keyser added on two more runs to increase their lead to 7-2. In the bottom of the third Berkeley Springs bounced back with five runs of their own to tie the game at 7-7.
Both teams were scoreless in the fifth inning. In the top of the sixth inning the Golden Tornado saw their bats come alive and they scored six runs to go up 13-7.
The score remained that way for the final inning and a half.
Offensively the Lady Indians were led by Jayda Thompson (three singles, run, stolen base and RBI), Natalie McCarty (single, double, run and RBI), Autumn Smith (single and run), Justina Vann (run), Jillian Beasley (single and RBI), Emma Widmyer (two runs and stolen base), Cheyenne Lewis (run), Hailee Lewis (RBI), Destiny Parsell (two singles) and Emily Schultz (single).
Berkeley Springs (2-6) were scheduled to play on Monday, May 3 at home against Jefferson. Today, Wednesday, May 5 the Lady Indians will travel to Spring Mills for a 6 p.m. contest. On Friday, May 7 the Lady Indians will host Frankfort at 6 p.m.
