Kathryn “Kate” Louise Rankin Eppinger, age 87, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., went to be with her Lord on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at the Extended Care Facility of War Memorial Hospital in Berkeley Springs.

Kate was born August 24, 1931 in Brosius, Morgan County, W.Va. She was the daughter of the late John Franklin Rankin and Laura May Baker Rankin.

She married William Frederick Eppinger on July 24, 1954 and they were married for 42 years until his death on March 1, 1997.

Kathryn was a 1949 graduate of Berkeley Springs High School where she was a member of the women’s basketball team and various other organizations.

Upon graduation, she began her employment with Potomac Light and Power. Kathryn began working for Kesecker & Fox Insurance and Real Estate in 1964. In 1975 she received her insurance license. She became office manager for Phil Kesecker in 1990 retiring after 43 years of service in May 2007.

Kate had been a long-time member of Highland United Methodist Church where she served in various positions. She was a member of Ye Towne of Bath Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution.

She was a 4-H leader for nine years when the Settler’s 4-H Club was first created. Over the years, Kate participated in several community plays. She was an avid reader and enjoyed sharing her books with others.

Kate is survived by her daughter, Carol Sue Eppinger Suker and her husband Warren G. Suker, Jr. of Cascade, Md.; one sister, Iris Jean Duckwall of Berkeley Springs; one brother, Herbert Ronald Rankin of Orange, Va.; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, William F. “Bud”, Vernon L. “Buzz”, Nyle G. “Jiggs” and Paul L. “Sam” Rankin; two sisters, Anna Lou Hovermale and Phyllis Lorraine Clingerman. Two infant siblings died at birth.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 29, 2018 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., with Pastor Kenny Mason officiating. Interment was in Greenway Cemetery.

The family received friends from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
