1962-2019

Julian Vincent “Jay” Ayers III, 56, of Hancock, died Saturday, January 5, 2019 at his home.

Born August 7, 1962 at Andrews Air Force Base in Suitland, Md., he was the son of the late Julian Vincent “Jim” Jr. and Martha Jean Martin Ayers.

He was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Hancock.

He was a graduate of Alamogordo Senior High School in Alamogordo, N.M. and earned his associates degree from Hagerstown Junior College.

He retired on July 31, 2015 after 33 years of service from the sales force at the Lowe’s Home Improvement store in Hagerstown.

He belonged to the Red Beard Clan in Clash of Clans, was an avid reader, ardent Dallas Cowboys fan and liked video games.

Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Karen Marie Harden Ayers, at home; his children, Angelique Ayers, Hagerstown and Alexander Ayers, Hancock; one sister, Jocelyn Wolfe, Crestview, Fla.; two grandchildren, Garrus Browning and Deianira Browning, both of Hagerstown and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 6 p.m. today, Wednesday, January 9 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 2 E. High Street, Hancock with Rev. F. Allan Weatherholt, Jr. officiating. Interment will be private.

The family will receive friends from 3-6 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Arrangements are being handled by Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs.
