John W. Hansroth

1939-2019

John Walter Hansroth, age 79, of Berkeley Springs, WV, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, January 6, 2019.

John was born in Berkeley Springs on September 19, 1939, son of the late Floyd B. and Helen Barker Hansroth.

He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Berkeley Springs.

He was a 1957 graduate of Berkeley Springs High School.

John worked for the West Virginia Department of Highways for over 30 years as a project supervisor. After retirement, he worked for several regional road construction companies.

John’s love of the outdoors was well known by many and he was a founding member of the River Bend Hunting and Fishing Club.

John was inducted into the West Virginia Turkey Hunter’s Hall of Fame in 2000.

John is survived by his beloved high school sweetheart and wife of 59 years, Phyllis Ann Merica Hansroth, his sister, Ruth Hansroth Rhoe and her husband Bob of Hagerstown, his brother, David Lawrence “Larry” Hansroth and his wife Jody of Middletown, MD, two daughters-in-law, Lori Baker Hansroth of Berkeley Springs and Lisa Arwood-Hansroth-Bacho of Charleston, WV, five grandchildren, Dr. Joseph Andrew Hansroth and his wife Jessica of Morgantown, WV, Kaitlyn Elizabeth Hansroth Baria and her husband Brandon of Lady Lake, FL, Jenna Lee Hansroth of Berkeley Springs, Jon Hunter Hansroth and Christopher Colton Hansroth, both of Charleston, WV,

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, John Andrew Hansroth and Christopher Joseph Hansroth.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Monday, January 14, 2019 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Liberty & S. Washington Streets, Berkeley Springs, WV with the Rev. Fr. Leonard A. Smith as celebrant.

Interment will be in Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery, Orleans Crossroads, WV at 1:30 p.m.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
