Janie M. Banks


Janie Marie Benner Banks, age 84, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at Hospice of the Panhandle in Kearneysville, W.Va.

Born September 10, 1934 in Lewistown, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Raymond E. and Jessie E. Woods Benner.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Berkeley Springs.

Janie was a graduate of Captain Jack Joint High School in Mt. Union, Pa., and secretarial college in Harrisburg, Pa.

She was a devoted mother and homemaker for most of her life and starting in the mid 1990’s worked for about 20 years at the McDonalds restaurant in Berkeley Springs.

She enjoyed cooking, baking, nurturing beautiful plants and flowers and was a diehard Orioles fan.

Janie was an ardent supporter of local sports events and always volunteered for the Indian Athletic Boosters.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Robert Faust Banks, at home; two sons, David Brian Banks and his wife Paula and Michael Ray Banks and his wife Elizabeth, all of Berkeley Springs; her daughter-in-law, Jennifer Hopkins Banks of Ashburn, Va.; five grandchildren, Tara Elizabeth Banks of Chantilly, Va., Corey James Banks and his wife McKenzie of Richlands, N.C., Kathryn Taylor Banks, Alex Ellen Banks and Karalyne Elizabeth Banks, all of Berkeley Springs and one great granddaughter, Quinn Marie Banks of Richlands, N.C.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Robert Benner Banks on December 23, 2003 and her stepfather, John Price.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. with Pastors Doug Hoffman and Rich Ellis officiating.

Entombment will be in Union Chapel Columbarium.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
