James W. Cooley

1927-2018

James William Cooley, 91, of Roanoke, Va., formerly of Winchester, Va., died Thursday, May 3, 2018.

He was born February 10, 1927 in Middletown, Va., the son of James R. and Emma Kline Cooley.

He was a graduate of Middletown High School and served with the U.S. Airforce and worked as the chief of supply at the VA Medical Center in Martinsburg for over 30 years.

He was a member of Highland Memorial Presbyterian Church where he ran the food pantry for over 20 years. He was also a member of the American Legion and liked playing softball.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Charlotte Virginia Hovermale whom he married on July 31, 1954; one daughter, Kimberly Circeo, Roanoke and one grandson, Justin Circeo, Roanoke.

He was preceded in death by one son, Larry Cooley; two brothers, Courtney Cooley and Howard Cooley and three sisters, Mary Colie, Margaret Hancock and Emma Hildebrand.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 8 at Jones Funeral Home. Reverend Kristin Reinhold officiated. Burial followed in Green Hill Cemetery, Stephens City.
