James C. Cowgill
1937-2019
James Clarence “Sonny” Cowgill, 82, of Paw Paw, died Sunday, September 8, 2019 at the Winchester Medical Center.
He was born on March 23, 1937 in Levels, he was the son of the late Clyde H. Cowgill and Dorothy E. Showalter.
He owned and operated Pin Oak Auto Sales & Repair and raced in Winchester and Hagerstown Speedways.
He liked Harley Davidson, hunting and was an avid NASCAR and Dallas Cowboy fan.
He married Arlene “Kay” Catlett Cowgill on August 26, 1982 in Pin Oak. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Dennis Cowgill, Oldtown, Md. and Douglas Cowgill, Slanesville; one daughter, Darlene McKee, Paw Paw; three step-sons, Wade Miller, Fairmont, Terry Miller, Boyce, Va. and Curtiss Miller, Front Royal, Va.; two step-daughters, Anita Brown and Lolita Saville, both of Paw Paw; one half brother; four half sisters; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; six step grandchildren and 10 step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Delmas Cowgill.
A celebration of his life was held at Giffin Funeral Home and Crematory, Capon Bridge on Thursday, September 12. Pastor Matthew Shrout officiated.
