The Berkeley Springs High School Indians Varsity Boys Basketball Team finally got back on the court last week after some covid issues forced practices and games to be postponed.

The Indians hosted sectional foe Hampshire on Wednesday, March 31 at the friendly confines of the BSHS gym. However, it appeared that the long layoff hurt the Tribe as Hampshire took a 50-36 win. The Indians were led by Gavin Barkley (22 points), Trent Kyne (11 points) and Shawn Lord (three points).

The Tribe traveled to Mount Storm on Friday, April 2 to take on the Union Tigers. Berkeley Springs opened the first quarter with a 22-4 run. At the half the Indians held a 32-11 lead. In the third quarter the Indians pushed the score to 51-20. In the final quarter the Tribe tacked on 16 more points to take the 66-30 win.

Leading the way for Berkeley Springs were Barkley (10 points), Trevor Osborn (10 points), Kyne (nine points), Carson Stotler (eight points), Ty’mir Ross (six points), Oscar Robles (six points), Lord (four points), Cole Oursler (four points), Jordan Miller (three points), Kaleb Michael (three points), Preston McCoy (two points), and Mickey Gurson (one point).

The Tribe played their third game in four days on Saturday, April 3 with a trip to Hampshire County and a rematch with the Trojans. Once again Hampshire stifled the Indians taking a 12-4 first quarter lead. At the half the Trojans led 24-13.

Berkeley Springs cut the lead down in the third trailing 39-27. However the Tribe’s rally fell short in the fourth quarter as Hampshire held on for the 51-44 win. Berkeley Springs was led by Kyne (11 points), Barkley (10 points), Miller (eightpoints), Lord (two points), McCoy (two points) and Oscar Robles (two points).

Next up for the Indians (4-4) an away contest at Keyser on Wednesday, April 7 with the JV game at 6 p.m. and the varsity at 7:30 p.m.
