Indians Baseball regular season ends with pair of losses

The Berkeley Springs Indians baseball team saw their record fall to 13-10 with a pair of losses to close out the 2019 regular season. On Tuesday, April 30 the Indians traveled to Frankfort to play the state ranked Falcons.

Berkeley Springs jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of third inning on an EJ Barkley RBI single. Barkley would later score to make the score 2-0. From there it was a battle of the pitchers and solid defense from both teams. In the bottom of the sixth inning Frankfort would tie the game at 2-2. The Falcons would then take the win with a run in the bottom of the seventh to seal the 3-2 win.

Berkeley Springs was led by E.J. Barkley who went 1-2 with a run, RBI, and a stolen base. Luke Spielman (1-3), Carson Orndorff (1-3), Payton Mann (1-3), and Sam Ambrose (run and stolen base) all contributed to the win.

Cole Morris was the tough luck loser on the pitching mound. Morris went 6.1 innings striking out two, and scattering four hits.

On Wednesday, May 1 the Indians hosted Musselman on senior night at Morgan Field. Before the game the Indians honored seniors E.J. Barkley, Colby Farris, Cameron King, Mann, Larry Miller and Orndorff for their contributions to the baseball program.

The Applemen took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning and pushed the score to 2-0 with another run in the top of the fourth inning. B

erkeley Springs would rally with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Mann scored on an Ambrose RBI single. In the top of the seventh inning Musselman tacked on two more runs to secure the 4-1 win.

Berkeley Springs was led by Mann (1-3, run), Orndorff (1-3), and Ambrose (1-1, RBI, and stolen base).

King got the start on the mound going five innings and scattering five hits. King allowed two runs and struck out five. Orndorff came on in relief in the sixth inning and gave up a hit and two runs.

Next up for Berkeley Springs is the Class AA Sectional playoffs. The Tribe hosted Grafton on Monday, May 6.
