One of the first female standout athletes in Berkeley Springs High School history is taking her rightful place as a member of the Berkeley Springs High School Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2019. Mary Jean Hottel was a standout basketball and softball player for the Lady Indians in the late 1940’s. Hottel graduated from Berkeley Springs in 1950.
The Berkeley Springs yearbook described Hottel as happy, pretty, sharp and mighty sweet. However, don’t let the good looks and sweetness fool you, Hottel was a really good athlete representing the Lady Indians programs.
Hottel was also a member of the International Relations, Intramural Club where she served as vice president, Student Council, Senior Class Play Prompter, Associate Member of Masque and Gavel, Football Homecoming Princess, Glee Club, Majorette, High Light Staff and a member of the May Court.
It is a great honor to welcome Hottel a queen on the basketball court and softball diamond into the Berkeley Springs High School Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2019.
The Berkeley Springs High School Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2019 will be introduced to the home football crowd on Friday, September 13 at halftime of the Indians and Hancock Panther game. Then on Saturday, September 14 the Class of 2019 will be inducted officially into the Hall of Fame with a dinner and ceremony starting at 5 p.m. in the Berkeley Springs High School cafeteria.
