Homer W. Stahle

1931-2019

Homer Watson Stahle, age 87, of Warfordsburg, Pa., died on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at his home while under the care of Grane Hospice of Fulton County.

Born December 16, 1931 in Cumberland, Md., he was the son of the late Jacob Burhman and Iola Pearl Fisher Stahle.

He attended Amaranth Church of the Brethren in Warfordsburg.

Homer was a 1950 graduate of Warfordsburg High School.

He served as a paratrooper with the U. S. Army completing 13 jumps.

He worked at Fairchild Aircraft, served as the Amaranth, Pa. Postmaster from 1958-1963 and retired from Mack Truck in Hagerstown in 1991.

Homer had been a member of Webster B. Harrison American Legion Post #26 in Hancock, Md.

He enjoyed hunting, doing crossword puzzles and was always present at his grandchildren’s sports and extracurricular activities.

Surviving are his wife of 65 ½ years, Doris Catherine Peck Stahle, at home; his children, Homer Lynn Stahle of Warfordsburg, Eric Leroy Stahle of Berkeley Springs and Sharon Louise Whiteside and her husband Billy of Warfordsburg; eight grandchildren, James Whiteside and his wife Beth of Accident, Md., Spencer Whiteside and his companion Cortney of Hagerstown, Md., Dylan Whiteside and his wife Lora of Mercersburg, Pa., Randy Stahle of Warfordsburg, Shannon Stahle of Berkeley Springs, Christina McDermott and her husband Aaron of Crown Point, Ind., Ashley Stahle and her companion Jason of Jamesburg, N.J., and Destane Morris and her husband Justin of Warfordsburg; 10 great grandchildren, Nathaniel Purnell, Avery Fletcher, Gage and Carson Morris, Isabel and Noah Whiteside, Jordan, Conner and Liam McDermott and Logan Whiteside and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three sisters, Louise Stotler, Geraldine Bohrer and Hope Vanko; three infant brothers and one grandson, J.P. Whiteside.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at Amaranth Church of the Brethren, 2709 McKees Gap Road, Warfordsburg, Pa. with Pastor Freeman Snair and Pastor Delmas Bard officiating. Interment with graveside military honors provided by the Tri-State Honor Guard will be in Buck Valley Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family received friends from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at Amaranth Church of the Brethren.
