Helen I. Funk

1922-2019

Helen Irene Funk, 96, of Mercersburg, Pa., died at her home Friday, July 12, 2019.

Born October 27, 1922 in Tunnelton, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Jesse B. and Ada O. Wolfe Funk, and the widow of James Monroe Funk, who died in 2003.

She graduated from Tunnelton High School in 1940.

She worked at Stanley Fulton Orchards, Dillon Orchards and her father-in-law, Stanley Funk’s orchard. She and her family also owned a small orchard until 1984.

She liked to garden and write letters to senators and congressmen.

She was a member of the Damascus Christian Church, Big Cove Tannery, Pa.

She is survived by one son, Malcolm Funk, Mercersburg; one sister, Viola King and number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services were held at the Damascus Christian Church, Big Cove Tannery, Monday, July 15. Rev. Edward James officiated. Burial followed in the ajoining church cemetery.
