Heavy fine comes with setting off fireworks in town

by Trish Rudder

An $800 fine will be charged each time an unlawful fireworks is discharged, said the Bath Town Council after passing the second reading of the town’s fireworks ordinance on November 19.

The ordinance will go into effect on or after December.

According to the ordinance in the Town of Bath, the discharge of fireworks, permitted under West Virginia statutes, is not permitted within 500 feet of any residence, motel, hotel, bed and breakfast, hospital, nursing home, or other facility in which people live, sleep and rest.

A firework means any composition or device designed for the purpose of producing a visible or audible effect by combustion or detonation. Fireworks include consumer fireworks, display fireworks, and special effects.

The ordinance language in its entirety can be found on the Town of Bath website at the bottom of the Municipal Code section under “Government.”
