Harry J. McCumbee, Sr.
1926-2019
Harry James “Bud” McCumbee, Sr., 92, of Berkeley Springs, died Thursday, May 30, 2019 at his residence.
Born August 17, 1926 in Braddock Heights, Md., he was the son of the late Charles Clifton and Margaret Yost McCumbee.
He was a member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church.
He retired from his painting labor job with the Pennsylvania Glass & Sand Company in Berkeley Springs and in early years he was a truck driver for Michael Brothers, then went into partnership with his brother-in-law, Willie Merchant as M&M Salvage Yard.
He and his wife sang and played music with the Gospel Lamp Lighters and was aired on numerous radio stations.
He was one of the founders of South Morgan Fire Company and was active with the annual festivals, Bingo and dinners.
He was an active volunteer in the local area. He liked playing music and tinkering around the house.
He is survived by his wife of 70 1/2 years, Anna Marie Merchant McCumbee at home; one son, Harry “Jimmy” McCumbee, Jr., Berkeley Springs; one sister, Carol Jones, Fairfield, Pa.; one granddaughter, Holli McCumbee, Berkeley Springs; one great-grandson and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one infant son, James McCumbee; one sister, Phyllis Smith and three brothers, Cletus “Slim” McCumbee, George “Sonny” McCumbee and Dennis McCumbee.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 3 at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, Berkeley Springs. Pastor Lloyd McCanna officiated.
Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Mt. Olivet Church Cemetery Association, c/o Irene Weber, 355 Harrison Avenue, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411.
