Handful of Silica corporate staff to return to local office

by Kate Shunney

Half a dozen U.S. Silica corporate employees will return to work in the former company headquarters in Berkeley Springs this summer.

Company spokesman Michael Lawson confirmed that six employees working in human resources, accounting, legal and information technology will start working in Morgan County in a few months.

U.S. Silica’s corporate headquarters relocated from Frederick, Md. to Katy, Texas last year. The company still has offices in Frederick.

“Some people moved to Houston, some will work from home, others will work out of offices in Berkeley Springs,” said Lawson.

U.S. Silica moved its corporate headquarters away from Berkeley Springs in November 2010, shifting about 25 jobs out of the area. The sand mine plant operation and staff weren’t affected by the move.

The company’s former corporate office building is now owned by Senior Life Services of Morgan County, and houses the Berkeley Springs senior center and several small businesses.
