by Geoff Fox

The Town of Hancock is now accepting applications from town residents interested in running for office during this year’s municipal election, to be held on April 19.

Seats up for election this year are the position of mayor, currently held by Ralph Salvagno and two council seats, currently held by Tim Boyer and Leo Murray.

The mayor serves a two-year term and council members serve for four years.

To be eligible to run for a municipal office, the candidate must have resided within the town’s corporate limits for at least one year immediately preceding their election and be a qualified voter in the town election.

Candidate applications are available at Town Hall and Community Center during normal business hours, which are 8 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

All nomination applications must be received no later that 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 18.

Anyone filing an application to run for a municipal office can only file for one office or hold one elected public office at a time.
