The annual Awards Ceremony at Hancock High School will be held on
Friday, May 31 at 2:30 p.m. in the school auditorium. Graduation will be held Thursday, June 6, 7 p.m.
Spencer Cain Hose, son of Laura and Ron Hose, is 2019 Class Valedictorian of Hancock High School. He is graduating as a University of Maryland completer with an additional completer in Agriculture.
His academic accomplishments include induction National Honor Society in grades 11 and 12, Honor Club in grades nine and 10, Trig Star Award in grade 11, an AP Scholar with Honor for scoring a three or higher on three AP exams and Outstanding Achievement in Honors Pre-Calculus, 11. He was a four-year member of the Academic Team, serving as captain in the current academic year, finishing third place. He represented
Hancock High as a finalist at Washington County Public Schools’ Young Entrepreneur Competition in grade 10.
His athletic endeavors include varsity football nine, 10, 11, 12, captain 11 and 12. He received the Coaches’ Award for the 2018 season for outstanding leadership and work ethic. He participated in outdoor track 11, 12, was a captain 12. Varsity baseball member in grades nine, 10 and 11.
His leadership experiences include representing Hancock High School at the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Conference in the summer of 2017; Summer Leadership Experience at West Point and Maryland Boys’ State in the summer of 2018.
His extracurriculars include founding the Hancock High School Weight Lifting Club, Student Representative of the Hancock Athletic Boosters Club in grade 12; member of the Hancock High School FFA; Member of St. Peter’sand St. Patrick’s Catholic Church Youth Group; Class Vice President, 12; Class President nine, 10, 11; and student government president, 12.
Spencer has volunteered as lector for St. Peter’s and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Hancock Lions Club Breakfast in the Park, the Homeless Coalition, Little Orleans Volunteer Fire Department and the summer program at Hancock Elementary School.
Spencer received an appointment to Virginia Military Academy and is the recipient of an Army ROTC four-year scholarship. He has accepted an appointment to United States Military Academy at West Point. He joins the Corps of Cadets on July 1. His intended major is Mechanical Engineering.
Salutatorian
Kayla Marie Wood, daughter of Sandra and Matthew Wood, is 2019 Class Salutatorian of Hancock High School.
She will be attending Hagerstown Community College this fall as a biology major. She is graduating as a University of Maryland completer with an additional CTE Business completer.
She received the school CTE Award for Outstanding Business Student and earned a certificate as Software Specialist.
She is an AP Scholar of Distinction for scoring three or better on all five of her AP exams. She was a recipient of the Celebration of Excellence and Student Service Learning Awards. She logged 190 service learning hours, many of which she served at her church, Hancock Assembly of God.
She was inducted into the National Honor Society in grade 11 and was an Honor Club member in grades nine and 10.
She has been involved in the school band since grade six and has been a member every year through grade 12. As a senior, she was section first chair and band president. She was awarded the John Philip Sousa Award. She was also a four-year outdoor track athlete and a three-year indoor track athlete. She earned the Coaches Dedication Award in grade nine and was a SSMAC All-Academic team member in grade 11. Also in grade 11, she helped organize the school prom as a member of the Prom Committee.
