Gym work on track

by Kate Evans

Morgan County Schools Superintendent Erich May said at the October 16 school board meeting that he was pleased that the pace of the Berkeley Springs High School renovations work was picking up. Crews were sanding the new gymnasium floor last week and should be painting   this week. May felt that the gymnasium should be fully functional well in advance of the   start of basketball season in November.

The new bleachers will be arriving the first week of November and bleacher parts would be spread out all over the floor. Teams may need to be practicing elsewhere that week, May said. He told school board members he’d get back to them by their November 13 meeting with plans for a dedication for the gymnasium building.

School board president Aaron Close suggested scheduling a walkthrough of the gym and locker rooms for the public so they could see them before they were used. May said they’d work on a date for the walkthrough and dedication.
