1930-2018

Granville “Leroy” Cowgill, 87, of Slanesville, W.Va., passed away on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at his home.

Born on September 25, 1930 in Neals Run, W.Va., he was the son of the late Granville T. Cowgill and Ada E. (Abe) Cowgill.

Leroy was a farmer and timberman, he sawed on his sawmill until the age of 84 when he stopped due to his health.

He was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Belmont, Alvin, Dorman, Lawrence, Denwin, and three sisters, Thelma Shanholtz, Hilda Kerns, and Maxine Cowgill.

Surviving is his wife, Esther K. (Stafford) Cowgill; a son, David L. Cowgill; a daughter, Nancy Abe and husband Keith, all of Slanesville; a grandson, Kent Abe and wife Brittany of Slanesville; two great-granddaughters, Emberlee Opal Abe, Charlotte Ann Abe; a sister, Doris Allen; a brother Darwin Cowgill, both of Hagerstown, Md., and a brother, Edwin Cowgill of Bunker Hill, W.Va.

Funeral services were held on Saturday July 21, 2018 at 11 a.m. in McKee Funeral Home Chapel, Augusta, with Pastor Rita Beaman officiating.

Interment followed in Bethel Cemetery, Paw Paw, W.Va.

The family received friends on Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. All arrangements are being handled by McKee Funeral Home, Augusta, W.Va.
