Grace E. Young
1931-2020
Grace Evelyn Young, 88, of Berkeley Springs, died Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Homewood at Williamsport, Md.
Born October 9, 1931 in Hancock, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd William and Grace Evelyn Clarke Brakeall.
She was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Berkeley Springs and attended the Carlisle Chapel at Homewood.
She had served on the vestry and as a Sunday school teacher at St. Mark’s.
She was a graduate of Hancock High School.
She retired from the IRS in Martinsburg where she worked as a computer operator and a homemaker.
She was an oil painter, specializing in still life and landscapes.
Surviving are her children, Bonnie Butts and Barbara Kyne, both of Berkeley Springs and Brenda Young, Martinsburg; three grandchildren, Matthew Butts, Berkeley Springs, Ethan Butts, Hedgesville and Brooke Payne, Winchester, Va.; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Wesley Young; one sister, Irene Lutman and one brother, Alston “Pete” Brakeall.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Friday, January 10 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Rev. Jeff Shull will officiate. Interment will be private.
