Gerald E. Sloan

1946-2019

Gerald Edward Sloan, 72, of Berkeley Springs, died on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at his home while under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.

He was born September 25, 1946 in St. Louis, Mo., the son of the late Ralph Edward and Virginia May Avery Sloan.

He was a Christian.

He served with the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant.

He was a graduate of Dominguez High School in Compton, Calif., and furthered his studies at UCLA and Long Beach State College.

He retired as a systems analyst with the U.S. Department of Defense at Ft. Meade, Md.

He was an accomplished photographer and liked to photograph covered bridges.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jean Elizabeth Marshburn Sloan, at home; one son, Gerald Sloan, Emmitsburg, Md.; three grandchildren, Kayla Sloan, Cameron Sloan and Nathanial Sloan, all of Emmitsburg and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Paula Pence.

Funeral services with military honors provided by the Tri-State Honor Guard were conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 24, at Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs.
