George H. Sanchuk

1924-2020

George Harry Sanchuk, age 95, of Warfordsburg, Pa., passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2020, at his home.

Born in Austria, April 28, 1924, he was the son of the late Dan and Anna (Gilete) Sanchuk; and the husband of Carol Jean (Reed) Sanchuk.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy; and retired from Bethlehem Steel, in Baltimore, Md., after 42 years of service.

He was a member of the Webster B. Harrison Post 26, in Hancock, Md., and a member of the National Rifle Assoc.

He liked to play cards, to be outdoors and to travel.

In addition to his wife of 33 years, he is survived by three sons, Paul Sanchuk, of White Plains, Md., Jacob Sanchuk, and Michael Sanchuk, both of Baltimore, Md.; two daughters, Linda Wilson, of Port Deposit, Md., and Diane Painter, of Rehoboth Beach, Del.; two step-children, Kathy Bowers, of Warfordsburg, Pa., and William Mills, of Hancock, Md.; seventeen grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sons, Wayne, Robert and George Sanchuk; one step-son, Darwin Mills; three sisters; and one brother.

The family received friends at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, Md., on Tuesday, January 28, 2020, from 10 a.m. until noon. Funeral services were at noon with Pastor Mark Faith officiating. Burial, with military honors by the Tri-State Honor Guard, followed in the Damascus Cemetery, in Big Cove Tannery, Pa.
