1947-2019

George Benny Baker, Jr., age 71, of Warfordsburg, Pa., died at Doey’s House, in Hagerstown, Md. on Sunday, July 14, 2019.

Born September 10, 1947, in Virginia, he was the son of the late George B. Baker, Sr. and Irene (Jacobs) Baker; and the husband of Joann (Shonk) Baker, whom he was married to for 31 years.

He was a 1965 graduate of Stafford High School, in Stafford, Va.; and had retired after forty-seven years of employment with Union Ironworkers Local #5, in Washington, D.C.

He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and the Eagles Club, in Fredericksburg, Va.

In addition to his wife, Joann, George is also survived by three sons, George B. Baker, III, in Warfordsburg, Pa., Donald Baker and Robert Baker, both of Virginia; a grandson, Liam A. Baker, of Hancock, Md.; and three sisters, Virginia, Diane, and Evelyn.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Claude Baker.

There will be a service to celebrate his life at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock, Md., on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at 12 noon. Rev. Jeffrey Hawbaker will officiate.

The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to Doey’s House, Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
