Gary Somers, Sr.

1941-2019

Gary Somers, Sr., 77, died on Saturday, March 2, 2019 in Rockingham, N.C., under the care of Richmond County Hospice.

Born October 9, 1941 in Berkeley Springs, he was the son of Wilfred and Virginia Cain Somers.

He attended Berkeley Springs High School.

He served in the United States Navy from 1960 to 1964.

He was employed as a truck driver spending most of his career with H. H. Omps Inc. in Winchester, Va. and T.H. Compton in Berkeley Springs.

In his spare time he enjoyed bowling, fishing, listening to bluegrass music, and playing miniature golf.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years Judy Gregory Somers; two sons, Gary Somers, Jr. and wife Mindy of Berkeley Springs and Christopher Somers and financée Kim Florian of Hagerstown, Md.; four grandchildren, Emily Somers of Spring Mills, Corey Clopper of Berkeley Springs, Shawntell Somers of Cumberland, Md. and David Somers of Hagerstown, Md.; two step-grandchildren, Amanda Simms of McConnellsburg, Pa. and Danielle Simms of Pensacola, Fla.; two sisters, Phyllis Fox of Hedgesville and Carole Emerson of Berkeley Springs; seven brothers, Robert Somers, James Somers, Dale Somers, Dennis Somers, Sr., Louis Somers, Sr. and Clyde Somers all of Berkeley Springs and Randy Somers of Gerrardstown and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Andrew Neil Somers and a brother, Joseph Somers.

A memorial service with Pastor Dick Voorhar officiating will be held at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at 11 a.m.

Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life immediately after the service at Berkeley Springs Bowl.
