Gary L. McCusker
1939-2019
Gary Lester McCusker, age 80, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at War Memorial Hospital in Berkeley Springs.
Born January 5, 1939 in Hancock, Md., he was the son of the late Alonzo Lester and Dollie Florence Zies McCusker.
He was a member of Victory Tabernacle in Hedgesville, W.Va.
Gary was a 1957 graduate of Hancock High School and retired after 39 years of service as a machinist with Mack Truck in Hagerstown, Md.
He served as a Private First Class with the U.S. Army from February 20, 1957 until his honorable discharge on February 12, 1959.
He was a Sunday school teacher, active in prison ministry and enjoyed music. Gary was meticulous about his yard.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Opal Marie Hovermale McCusker, at home, his children, Vickie Lynn Maslauskas of Berkeley Springs, Rhonda Sue Carter of Falling Waters, W.Va. and Gary Lester McCusker II and his wife Angela of Berkeley Springs, two sisters, Janice Ziler and Kathleen Hovatter, both of Hancock, six grandchildren, Joy Lynn Mills, Nicole Marie Shover and Weston Eli McCusker, all of Berkeley Springs, Joshua Andrew Carter and Brooklyn Cierra Oliver, both of Ormond Beach, Fla. and Janessa Katelyn Watkins of Nags Head, N.C., six great grandchildren, Seth Brayden Mills, Logan Bryce Mills and Kaden David Shover, all of Berkeley Springs, Cameron Carter Watkins and Harper McKenna Watkins, both of Nags Head, N.C. and Joslyn Adair Carter of Ormond Beach and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at Victory Tabernacle, 34 Victory Lane, Hedgesville, W.Va. with Pastor Joshua Carter officiating assisted by Pastor Kirk Powers.
Interment with graveside military honors provided by the Tri-State Honor Guard will be in Union Chapel Cemetery.
The family received friends from 5-8 p.m. on Friday at Victory Tabernacle and from 1-2 p.m. on Saturday at the church.
