Ernest W. Fink

1940-2019

Ernest “Ernie” W. Fink, age 78, of Hancock, Md., went home to be with his Lord in Heaven, on Wednesday, July 31, 2019, peacefully, at his home, surrounded by his family.

Born September 22, 1940, in Hancock, he was the son of the late Ernest L. and Mildred (Divelbliss) Fink; and the husband of Darlene E. (Fox) Fink.

He was a 1958 graduate of Hancock High School, in Hancock.

He served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1958 until 1966.

He was a member of Wesleyan Chapel Church, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and served as their treasurer.

Ernie served the Town of Hancock as mayor, from 1981 to 1983 and 1987 to 1989.

He owned and operated Ernie’s Auto Sales for over 20 years. After his auto sales business closed, he operated a video store, and The Country Deli, in Clear Spring, Md. for several years. Later, he worked for Hoffman Automotive before entering his retirement.

He enjoyed going on fishing trips, cooking and spending time with his family drinking coffee on the patio.

Ernie is survived by his wife, Darlene E. Fink; two daughters, Kim Didawick and her husband, Jeff, and Kandy Levasseur and her husband, Larry, all of Hancock; three granddaughters, Krista Didawick, Rachel Levasseur and Elizabeth Levasseur; a grandson, Jarrett Didawick; a brother, James Fink and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Faith and Jean Starliper; four brothers, Ezra Divelbliss, Herb Fink, Wilbur “Gob” Fink, and Dennis Fink; and two grandsons, Anthony C. Didawick and Andrew B. Levasseur.

Funeral Services were held at the Wesleyan Chapel Church, 546 Harrrison Ave., Berkeley Springs W.Va., on Tuesday, August 6, 2019, at 11 a.m. His longtime friend, Rev. William Swope officiated.

Burial followed in the Alpine United Methodist Church cemetery, on Pious Ridge Road, in Berkeley Springs.

The family received friends at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock, on Monday, August 5, 2019 from 6 until 8 p.m., and one hour prior to the funeral services at the church.

The family would like to thank Dr. Brittany Gusic for her caring and support during Ernie’s illness, and also Dr. Michael J. McCormack.
