Ennis H. Gladhill
1937-2019
Ennis Hartford “Pinky” Gladhill, 82, of Big Pool, Md., passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2019, at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, Md.
Born February 9, 1937, in Pecktonville, Md., he was the son of the late Millard Fillmore Gladhill and Mary Margaret (Mills) Reed Gladhill.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen “Tootles” (Stanley) Gladhill, in 2017.
Pinky was a graduate of Clear Spring High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He retired from the Maryland Correctional Institute after 30 plus years of employment as a correctional officer.
He was president of the Parkhead Cemetery Board, a lifetime member of Western Maryland Sportsman Club, and a member of the NRA.
Pinky enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking. Pinky also loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by two sons, Mike Gladhill (Linsay Wilkinson) of Clear Spring and Jeff Gladhill (Ida) of Big Pool; two brothers, Neal Bennett “Dee” Gladhill and Wendall Owen Gladhill (Frances); seven grandchildren, Garrett, Agapi, Andriana, Emma, Stephanos, Maximos and Stavros and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, Pinky was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Jane “Bee” Mills; and five brothers, Wallace Wilbur Reed, Elton Elwood Reed, Thurlon Millard Gladhill, Warren Edison “Babe” Reed and Otas Frederick “Tuck” Gladhill.
Services were held on Saturday, November 9, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Parkhead United Methodist Church, 9512 National Pike, Big Pool, MD 21711. The Rev. Dennis Whitmore officiated. Internment followed in the adjoining church cemetery.
