1933-2019

Eleanor Arlene Reed, 86, of Hancock, died Friday, December 27, 2019 at The Berkeley Springs Center LLC.

Born September 15, 1933 in Buck Valley, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William and Beatrice Emily Ward Carnell.

She was a Christian. She graduated from Southern Fulton High School.

She was a bartender at Webster B. Harrison American Legion Post #26 in Hancock, Alderton-Dawson American Legion Post #60 and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1483 both in Berkeley Springs. She was a member of Webster B. Harrison American Legion Auxiliary Unit #26 in Hancock and the Women of the Moose Chapter #1311 in Berkeley Springs.

She liked shopping, holiday decorating, bowling, playing bingo and playing slot machines at the Berkeley Springs Moose Lodge.

She is survived by her children, Cheryl McCarty and Cindy Fox, both of Berkeley Springs; eight grandchildren, Michelle McCarty, Hagerstown, Md., Roger Reed, Jr., Hancock, Jeremy Fox, Sr., Dana Fox, Christopher Fox, Ashleigh Lutman, Daniel “Dude” Fox, Jr. and Joshua Graham all of Berkeley Springs; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roger William “Short” Reed; her companion, James Stahle; one son, Roger Reed, Sr.; one daughter, Connie Reed and one brother, Merrill “Gene” Carnell.

Services and burial will be private. Memorial contributions can be made to Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411 to help defray funeral expenses.
