Early morning accident sends five to hospital

A single-vehicle accident in the 8000 block of Valley Road injured five people in the early morning hours of Tuesday, February 5.

Morgan County 911 received the call at 2:53 a.m.

West Virginia State Police Cpl. V.E. Branham investigated the crash. Berkeley Springs Volunteer Fire Company, Morgan County EMS, the Hancock Rescue Squad and an EMS unit from Reynold’s Store responded to the accident. The vehicle involved in the crash was carrying five people, including three juveniles.

Members of the Berkeley Springs Volunteer Fire Company had to extricate one occupant of the vehicle while three EMS units triaged and transported the other four individuals. Firefighters also assisted with moving patients and patient care, said Deputy Chief Marshall Younker in a fire department press release.

All five occupants of the vehicle were transported to Winchester Medical Center for treatment, according to 911 officials.

U.S. 522 was reopened at 4:24 a.m. as units cleared the scene.
